The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is reviewing New Zealand’s financial advice laws.
They are consulting on ways to simplify the regime, improve access to financial advice and raise confidence in the financial advice industry.
A consultation paper has been issued recently, with options to change the regime as well as a shorter brochure with some key consumer questions about access to financial advice.
Before we consider changes to the laws we want to hear your views. In the consumer brochure we ask questions on key points, such as:
- How easy is it to tell the difference between ‘sales’ and ‘financial advice’?
- What information from a financial adviser would be useful to you?
- Would you be comfortable receiving financial advice online?
