Mrs B returned the vacuum cleaner to the lender, and it was resold for less than she had paid, because it was no longer new. The lender sought to recover the outstanding debt. The case manager asked the lender what information was sought in Betty’s credit application process, and whether enquiries were made about her ability to repay the loan. The IFSO Scheme’s fair and reasonable jurisdiction was explained. As a result of this conversation, the finance company confirmed it would write off the outstanding debt and would not pursue Mrs B further.
